APOLOGIES…APOLOGIES…APOLOGIES….my original post was far to long, complicated and involved; I should have simply asked the question “what do you do with a H4 error code” and I may have got a reply.

HOWEVER…..I spent a couple of hours today and overcome the problem…it was a poor battery; one with 12.7v and the other with 6.2v.

I changed both batteries with good ones and the H4 has gone and the lift is working and charging.

I send this post as I realise any faults you should always check the batteries!!

Good luck to all on the forum.

    Bet Regards

    Thanks guys

I had a swift look today after getting it out of my CRV.

I found the 2 x 1/2″ (ish) round velcroded magnets at both the top and bottom of the rail.

    Again thanks for your input.

I am still looking for a cheap green plastic connector 950 pcb.

    Regards

    Success..stopped for a coffee, returned & swore silently &
extensively at the machine. Slackened off 4 x carriage wheel
bolts..re-tightened them after find tool to hold lower rollers centre
pin and all is well. Wheels are tight onto rail but not over tight.
Presumably gremlins or even grit no longer acting on wheels.

Spike…thank you for your frequent and excellent help.

I need to learn a lot about staircase lifts and you have helped me enormously.

I will have further questions and I am at present starting to temporary install the lifts.

When I can see they work and are set up correctly I will actually remove them and keep the rails in my workshop and the carriages in the house to avoid dampness issues.

When my wife or indeed myself start to need to use the lifts I will hopefully be able to put them in place.

My very best Regards to you

    Spike…thank you.

One of the lifts drive cogs ends 2″ from the rail end BUT the other lifts cogs run right to the end of the rail.

Following your practical comments I will cut the (overlong) cogs back about 2″ where a convenient holding screw is positioned, leaving the screw in place obviously.

I’ll try for the 3rd time…my 2 x earlier posts have disappeared….thanks Spike..I hoped keeping the batteries on charge would have been the answer. When my wife fully needs the stairlifts I/she will have 4 x straight stairlifts servicing 2 x staircases both with 1/2 landings i.e. staircase from ground the 1st floor another from 1st floor to attic…regards and again thanks..Richard

Success with help from this forum, especially Spike.

It is working in my workshop and waiting to be temporarily put in place on the 1st leg of the main staircase. This temp’ fixing is to check the stair lift can be set up correctly AND then temp’ removed and stored in an adjoining corridor. BTW my wife is presently struggling walking up the staircase with the determination of doing so until such a time when she can no longer do so and then requires the stairlift.

I will ask on another thread about battery charging & maintenance.

    Thank you again to everyone.

    Best Regards

    Thanks Spike.

    I have downloaded the manual.

FYI I was getting error 2 & 8 but I have lightly cleaned the copper strip and the single carbon brush AND moved the carriage 1/2m (20″) down the carriageway.

The code is now showing “-” Your manual tells me it is charging, which makes me happy.

I am leaving it alone for a few hours and hoping the batteries are OK.

BTW I have removed the seat from the carriageway, because of the combined very heavy weight, I have carefully marked the connections for when I re-connect them.

I am hoping when the batteries are charged I can move the carriage up/down the rails.

If all is good I will move from my home workshop to indoors and reconnect the seat and test everything again.

    Again thank you.

Spike…….I have just looked carefully at your pic of the carbon brush and seen the magical words “(sliding tacks use 2 charge brushes, standard use 1 charge brush) I believe that answers my question….my track/rail is fixed it does not slide, accordingly my setup only needs one brush.

I still welcome information on where I:

    1. can get a Minivator 950 service manual NOT an installation manual

    2. how to post pics onto this forum N.B. I am assuming low size jpg should be OK but are failing for me

    Thanks Spike

    1. your words “Just dont turn the charger on while you do it” is it OK to have the batteries connected

    2. With only one copper stip is my set up with only one carbon brush correct

    3. Is there any advice on how to post pics into this forum…..I have tried to show very low size pics twice and failed

    Thank you Spike

Sorry about the (no) pics I thought the low jpg pics would be OK

There is only one brass strip.

The single carbon brush is located to work on that strip.

I wondered of the bottom empty carbon brush holder was the negative or earth connection perhaps not requiring a carbon brush.

I have considered setting up the unit using the single carbon brush; carefully loading the power unit onto the rail while holding in the carbon brush with the mains power closed down….. it seems a bit of a job to close off the battery power.

Again thank you..BTW I am in north west Cumbria is that somewhere you travel to.

    Hi Spike

What is the OSG, you say “as the osg is easy to trip and can be a biatch to reset”
