This Stannah 300 shut itself off just before it reached the bottom of the stair. I brought it down manually (isolator switch to 0). When I put isolator switch back on, circuit board lights up, lift moves 6 inches or more and shuts down. Seems as though shutting down is for no reason…no obstacles for switches. Lift moves in both directions, just wont stay running. Any thoughts?? I have diagram, on inside cover.

When the lift stops after 6 inches which LED lights up? Sounds like a battery fault but if it happens in down travel its not unheard of for the motor to fail in these.

If switching the lift off, and then back on allows the lift to operate a little before shutting down yet again, i tend to agree with Rik – most likely the batteries. Motors can also fail, in this case I would think of worn brushes, if tapping the motor allows starts the lift again, time to consider options of cost against repair or renew.

How old is the lift, is it one of the older units with a trailing cable by any chance?
